    Mason Line

I just bought a new tarp (from wilderness logic and its awesome btw). I plan on making my continuous ridge line out of zing-it, but it seems silly to use something that expensive on the side tie outs. I am having a hard time finding braided polypropylene mason line: most is nylon. The closet I can find is from Home Depot and says "MAY contain polypropylene, and nylon" is twisted vise being braided. I guess my question is, does it really mater either way since I'll be putting the slingshot tensioners that Jeff has on his web page anyway?

Home depot has the braided mason's line, you probably won't be happy with the twisted stuff at all. Even the braided line is bad to tangle up when doing up the tarp. Even though it costs a bit more, the less tangle prone lines will be worth it to you in the long run. No fun at all trying to tie out a tarp with its lines grabbing each other.

Zing it and similar cords are not needed for their strength and low stretch qualities for tie outs.

The value of Zing it for tie outs is that is does not tangle near as much as masons line (which in my opinion gets old real fast). There are several "low tangle" alternatives.

Masons line is nylon because the way contractors use it, high stretch is desirable.

For the relatively short lengths needed for the corner tieouts the stretch of nylon vs. poly probably wouldn't be much of an issue. The more likely issues, as others have stated, is that any twisted line in these applications is much less desirable and also the tangle factor of that soft masons line. For strengh, the mason's line is fine for corner tieouts - just keep looking for the braided stuff.
I can say that now because I just received my order of Zing-it for my ridgeline to replace my Masons line.
For corner tieouts I am using the lines that came with a set of Nite-Ize Figure 9's. (I don't use the Figure 9"s though).

Look for a true pro quality bonded braided masons line. Lowes used to sell some that was made by Kraft, but don't think they have it anymore. I carry about 10-12 feet of this in my pocket every day for various uses around the job site, and never have any tangling issues.

I agree, I think if you out it in a figure eight you should be ok.
