    full ridgeline and paracord?

im sure this has been posted b4 but i couldent find it

whats the point of a full length ridge line for you tarp

and is paracord overkill for a tarp ridgeline , and since there wont be much weight on it can i use the cheap mini beaners from the dollar store?

    thanks,

I used a full ridge line with paracord with cheap mini beaner for years. It is easy to setup and using a paracord prusik knot/beaner on each side of the trap allows you to easily center the tarp over your hammock. It is a good, inexpensive solution.

Downsides? It weights a bit more. I also found that the gates would break fairly quickly on the cheap mini beaners. Paracord stretches quite a bit under load and when wet; so in a big storm you may have to tighten your ridge line.

Search for "under or over the tarp continuous ridgeline (CRL)".
Basically its personal preference towards the advantages of either way. A third way is to do what I do and just tie each end off to the trees.

Full length ridge-lines have a few advantages, Primarily they support the tarp better in high winds and with a potential snow load than would a 2 piece ridge line.

Paracord will work but it has disadvantages, it stretches being the biggest. When a ridge line stretches your tarp droops. AKA your up at 3am in the storm trying to get your tarp pulled back tight rather than snoring away. There are other lines that don't really cost any more that don't stretch and will hold a tarp tight till you take it down. Paracord also has a great deal more bulk than the lines that most of us use.

Here for tarp ridgelines we like to use 1.7mm Zingit or Lashit (same thing) The only down side of using these is instead of knots you have to splice because making knots significantly weakens the chord.

Functionally for a tarp ridge line or guy lines they don't need to be spliced. You really don't have to have 450 pound breaking strength for a tarp. When it comes to suspension for a hammock then knots are a no no but for a tarp the lines are so much stronger than necessary that they are way in the overkill side even with knots.....Splicing just looks nicer.

I like the quick adjustability of the full rl.. With prussics and small nite ize s biners and your paracord you are good to go.. Alas..paracord, it sucks up water and gets heavystretchy.. Yes that is a word............................. I went with 1.75 lash it with Dutch gear this year.. Big weight savings and super cool factor.... It is all about the fun.. Whatever works for you..

I use an over the top CRL just because I'm used to it, I find it easier to centre the tarp over the hammock if I can slide it.

Paracord will work fine if that's what you have, if you're looking to go lighter I use a 2.2mm dyneema arborists' throwline.
