Has anyone had experience with using shock cord for tarp tie outs to the ground, not trees? Not tensioners but a 4' or so length of shock cord for each tie out. I have a Warbonnet Edge and some 1/8" shockcord from West Marine, the good stuff.

When I pitch my cheap poly tarp from Harbor Freight, I use a couple of these to stake into the ground...
I know it's not exactly the same thing, but they are made of shock cord. They work great with my tarp. I don't see why just bungees with some knot knowledge would work for you.
I've used just shock cord on my Noah 9. Just make sure your stakes are in good or they could become projectiles. I like the simple factor or using shock cord only.
Someone recently quoted Brandon from Warbonnet as saying that his tarps do not need shock cord on the tie outs, and can be wrenched down tight enough that even with a little stretch they will remain taut. I didn't hear it directly from Brandon, but I'm inclined to believe the person who posted it.

It is nice to have shock cords for tie outs because if snow gets on it will just rebound off. Another awesome thing about using shock chord it makes it easier to not get clotheslined by your tarp tie out guy lines. You could make a tarp tensioner out of shock chord and it will do the same thing.

I have strung shock cord between the outs and the us lighter cord at the center (larksheaded on) and run that to the ground/tree.

I use shockcord only as a tensioner, on top of the tie out in case the tarp gets wet an stretches a little. A dogbone works great adding it.
I'm afraid to use it by itself since it just feels like I'm over-stretching it. I like my lines very tight. I use 2mm Reflective Dyneema without any shockcord and it works great. I love the Mamajamba tarp and it likes to be snare drum tight
A buddy & I both do this for our sil-nylon tarps it works great. 4 ft is to long 2 ft is about right for us & we use the cheap straight metal stakes. When the tarps get wet or the wind blows it gives & takes just right.Originally Posted by taylo

I would think that with a long length of shock cord only, if the stake comes out of the ground, it would launched pretty good. I have had mine pull loose, but with the zing-it on the stake and the short shock cord at the tarp, it seems to not launch too far/hard.....RR
