I keep it somewhere under my tarp...either on a piece of plastic on ground or suspended from another rope going under my tarp. I keep all of my gear under the tarp close to me...food and all. I've yet to ever have a bear problem. I cook and eat from the hammock and often times have a late night snack while all tucked in and cozy. However I am almost always camping in areas where the bears are wild and scared of humans...if I was to camp in a park with frequent problem bears I wouldnt do the same. You have to judge the situation for yourself and do what makes sense. For instance, on a remote canoe trip, if I was to stash my food somewhere away from camp and if for some reason a bear was able to get it down and steal it from me...that is IMHO more of a life threat (starving) then if I was just to keep my food close to me were I can guard and keep an eye on it.

I like Mac's Gear Box. The SEEP helps keep things dry. Everything I need close is in my hammock on the ridgeline or shelf. I have made a few trips without the gear hammock and always wanted to have it once I got setup. I have hung it from my trekking poles when in porch mode too. That keeps everything close, but does require a couple more stakes and more line.

Ditto, but I use one of those huge contractor grade bags. Pack fits in half of it and I use the remainder as my door mat for shoes and water bottle. A lot of times Ill use a nylon strap and binder and keep it on my hanging trees.

I like the idea of part of it as a door mat.
