    DIY HH style

Just finished my DIY HH-styled hammock (based on headchange4u’s design). I changed the location of the tie-outs (based on Burning Cedar's design). Thanks guys, this thing is really cool!!

I modified a synthetic sleeping bag and made an UQ that clips and velcros in place. Seems to be warm enough, for Florida.

Seems I can't hang the hammock very high though 'cause the zipper wants to cut my legs off when I'm getting in and out! Has anyone else experienced this problem? I'm not happy being only a few inches from the ground.

I didn't do anything special when I whipped the ends, basically squared it off. Is that a problem?

I plan to use it this coming weekend. It'll be my first overnite hang. Thanks again for the great ideas, this forum rocks!

Nice looking hammock and FOR 2. And I really envy you for those two beautiful trees in you back yard. Good Job. Mule

I have the same problem with the sides (although I don't have a zipper on mine) and posed some potential solutions in this thread. I haven't had much response to date. The problem is due to the tie out on the side you are entering from because by pulling the side out it naturally also pulls it up. I'm leaning towards a really stretchy tie out cord or a cord that I can tighten once I'm in the hammock.

Let me know if you come up with a good solution - all the best.

Nice looking hammock by the way. What is the black material at the head end? Did you run short of netting or is there some function it performs?

I like your pink crocs. They look a bit small for you though.

Nice job on the hammock! No real advice on the zipper, maybe you could keep a bit of nylon around as a mat to sit on getting in or out?

Hah, yeah my six year old daughter won't allow me to swing without her.

Hey, a short length of bungie cord on the tie-out might help. Good thinkin'.

As for the black material, I just wanted a two-tone hammock, for some reason.

you should be able to just use shockcord for the tieouts, a few pounds of force is all you should need.

You may try rewhipping. Pulling the center of the fabric out a little further will raise the body & make it easier getting in & out. The tradeoff is a higher center of gravity so don't overdo it.

And that's how it should be! I love it when my kids are interested in things I like. Hammocking is one of those things.

Only trouble is... they end up with the better gear!

Fantastic job on the hammock. It looks professionally made.
