I don't know if those diagonal baffles have a functional use but they sure do look cool!

They do look cool but I've noticed that laying on the diagonal in my hammock puts me right in line with the baffles on my under quilt

If you want to have something you can actually use out there in the piny woods, you can only have two of the above at the same time. But not three...
    It's a horrible truth.

Consider Zpacks bag. Weights 11oz; rated to 40 degrees. I just bought one and had them make mine without a zipper so it's just like a top quilt. There's nothing lighter for the rating....nothing! Only downside is cost but its worth it to me as I move into ultra light backpacking.

Yea, that would be a great bag from zpacks but they have about a grand of my cash as they build my arc blast pack and accessories and my tarp so another $300 plus is not what i am about at the moment. Maybe my mind will change but the Escape bivy has so many possibilities, size and weight wise.
