    Warbonnet ridgerunner

    Just wondering...

I'm 6ft, 220lbs. I have a WBBB and big mamajamba tarp on order, and am thinking of checking out the RR but the weight limit scares me. Factor me, clothes, top/bottom quilt, and anything I have in the saddle bags and I'm coming close. how conservative is the 250# limit?

Any thoughts and opinions would be appreciated.

Also, since I'm OCD like this, while I'm waiting for my new WBBB to come in and saw a WBBB xlc for sale on here. I bought that, should be shipping Monday. So I figured hey I'll need a tarp for that hammock too, so I ordered a WL big daddy tarp...and 6 more tarp flyz.....and another set of snake skins....and 180ft of zing it.....

And now I'm thinking of a ridge runner?! I haven't even laid in a hammock yet except my ENO DN.

anyhooo. So what're the thoughts on the RR?

I say variety is the spice of life

I think you would be OK. You got 30 pounds to spare...those saddle bags are big but not that big)))))
I have one but have not spent a whole night in it.

You might want to check with the company but the weight limit might have been a factor of the strength of the spreader bars and not the fabric materials. I got e-mail from Warbonnet about a month ago announcing an upgraded head end spreader bar. I'd check with the source....

When I ordered mine, Brandon asked me how much I weighed and since I'm about 215, he sent me the larger head end bars. Looking at them they are a bit fatter than the foot end ones. I don't have any fear that they will give out, but I'm very careful not to touch them when I'm laying in the hammock.

Im 6.1 and 220 and I not only perma-hang in the RR but it goes out with me as well. It has held everything I been able to "throw" at it.
I miss my 4.8Lb base weight as a ground dweller...But I sure DON'T MISS the ground.

I used a ridgerunner for a bit at about 270ish pounds with no structural problems at all. In an introductory thread he said the weight limit wasn't so much because of the material strength, but rather due to the width of a heavier hanger....this was the problem I had with the ridgerunner. At 270 I was just too wide and there was not much room for my hands on the side or to tuck in my top quilt.

There's a good thread here on the RR with bigger folks.

I weigh 270ish and didn't have any issue with the stock spreader bars.

However, Brandon from Warbonnet recommends the "beefier" head end spreader bar as there evidently have been some failures with the standard spreader bars with folks in the 225-250 lb range.

I have run the gammut of gathered end hammocks and nothing even remotely compares in comfort to the RR. I love it.

Have fun trying out different hammocks. Let us know what ends up working for you.

The one advantage of the larger spreaderbars, is that you can nest one of the foot end pieces in one of the head end pieces, and nest the short head end piece over the other foot end piece.

I just emailed Brandon about getting the larger spreader bar and got his reply in about 30 minutes:

"Yes, that's what we're sending with the double layer RR's now

    Brandon"

So, it looks like if you order a DL RR you will get the larger spreader bar, unless you request the regular one. Now back to the waiting game, 2 more weeks to go. (I hope)
