    FL Intel Request

Hey FL guys, are there any car camping sites that are also hammock friendly near Deering Bay Golf & Yacht Club in Coral Gables, FL? I may have my wonderful wife talked in to car camping while we go watch our daughter play in a college golf tournament!!!!

I see Chapman Field Park, ITT Snapper Creek Park that are really close but doubt they are camping parks. Biscayne Bay National Park is over 40 minutes away and hopefully not our only choice.

I would appreciate any local knowledge you can share.

    Thanks!

Up in Central Florida I would be able to help but not that familiar with that end of the state. Maybe some of those farther south may offer some ideas.

Unfortunately, most of the area around Coral Gables is either upscale residental/business or enviromentally protected land. And you're right, those parks you mentioned are simply city parks, meant for day tripping, not camping. It looks like Biscayne Bay is the closest car camping spot. The next nearest car camping friendly park would be the Everglades National Park, a fantastic park, but a bit far away.

Just pulled the map out and realized that Cape Coral is on the Gulf coast. Don't believe Biscayne Bay, which threw me off, is going to be just 40 min away as it's across the state. Been years since I was down that way but a couple of places come to mind. Getting late let me do some research and get back tomorrow.

Thanks for the heads up, I was hoping I was missing something on the maps. Looks like I'll have to slum it in a luxury hotel.

Oleta River State Park is just north of your location but only has youth camping. Cabins are available though.
