    Net affect comfort?

I have my DIY table cloth hammock just how I want it comfort wise. I want to duplicate it with another blank I have around the house, but add a sewn bug net, Jerry 5 style (or Hennessey hammock depending on your responses). My question to you is will it effect the hammock geometry making my comfortable hammock possibly less than desirable. I was going to make a fronkey net and skip the issue all together, but I like the idea of the challenge of sewing the net on the hammock body.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

If your net is changing the lay of you hammock, then you will be putting too much stress on the net. You should be fine and I bet you won't regret it as it will be better bug protection.

Man I miss doing that stuff. I have to get behind a sewing machine again.

You're welcome to test on mine! Just tell me where to send it!

That said, I've been considering doing something like this. The best way I've heard of doing it is just throwing some noseeum over your ridgeline and pinning the edges where it meets the fabric of your hammock.

Maybe somebody more learned can speak some piece on this?
I used to be a somebody, now I just camp.

I was going to either follow the diy hennessy tutorial in the diy stickies. Or go all out and try a jerry 5 net.

The Hennessy Hammock net design in the above mentioned tutorial is very similar to what you describe.

Thanks for the the advice. I'm going to order some coil zipper and give it a go.

Packeagle, do you sleep on the same diagonal all the time?
If so, a zippered bugnet that fits snug to the ridgeline works nicely.

If you switch from one diagonal to the other, that dramatically changes the shape of the hammock and I would suggest a zippered bugnet done as the Switchback hammocks.

Don't forget about the top entry bug net... No zipper and its suspended by shock cord, so it can't change the lay too much...
Live, Laugh, Love, if that doesn't work. Load, Aim and Fire, repeat as necessary...

I always sleep on the same diagonal. Feet right, head left. I may look into the switchback net, just to see if I like that idea.

Why wouldn't the Jerry #5 net act the same as the switchback?

    Switchback style bugnet...

...is the same size as the hammock. That is why you see the gathered effect in pictures of it and why the spreader bars work. I actually made a similar one using walmart sheer curtain material for the netting. It is very strong but not quite as breathable. Didn't even use full length zippers both sides. It is also like the Hammock Bliss Noseeum No More. When I don't need the net I just sleep on top of it as a double layer. Or, flip it over. See this vid...

I didn't make mine quite that long. And SB is about 52 inches wide, HB is 60 inches wide. I compromised at about 54 inches. I had a HB and didn't like it because the fabric has quite a bit of stretch as Sgt. Rock says. Otherwise I love the versatility. That is why I chose that design for this DIY.
