    DIY Gear

Has anyone made anything from the 2.8 oz nylon DIY has? I was thinking of making a SS hammock from it, I made one from the 1.7 oz they had a while back and although it is a nice hammock, I just don't like the feel of it. Have any of you used it and what are your feelings about it?

I have made two hammocks out of it. Look at the thread in my signature for some pics. I have only had a cheap hammock from eBay made from the crinkle taffeta stuff and the 2.8 for my DIY's, so I can't comment on how it feels in comparison to 1.7 or other ripstop, but I really like it. It works perfectly for my double layer design since the second layer doesn't hold any body weight, and I am about 275(Right now!). I would imagine it would have a less slick feel than ripstop. It is breathable even though a little heavier. I think it is a heck of a value.

Thanks, the 1.7 oz has a very slick feel to it, a while back DIY had some 1.9 in a dark green second and it had an almost brushed feel like suede. I fooled around and by the time I was ready they didn't have enough. I hoped the 2.8 oz might have a nicer feel.

Probably the difference between calendared and non-calendared.
