So, I finally got around to giving this system "The Gresh Test" last night...finally.

First up was a 3/4 PVC "T" joint, which bent into all sorts of wacky shapes. PVC for fat guys was a bust, it seems.

Next was a short piece of copper pipe, again about 3/4".

Great success, but I don't wanna use metal - it's like a blade against the Amsteel. Gonna try to find an appropriate dowel next.
I used to be a somebody, now I just camp.

Every hardwood tree in SC has appropriate dowels. Time to get all "bushcrafty".

This might just actually be about the right time to "get all bushcrafty" up in here. Guess I'll be spending Saturday out in the woods.

Gresh, Was the PVC 'T' just a plain one? If I ever get the cooperation of family obligations and weather, I want to try my threaded one with some extra material screwed into it like I described earlier here. It just seems like it'd be pretty darn strong.

Yeah, just good ol' vanilla PVC. Nothing special.

I think maybe a straight piece of PVC would work better, but I didn't have one on hand. Also, I got better results using a fixed eye over the toggle instead of a carabiner over the toggle.

    Imagine with me:

My suspension off the end of Swamp Sling is just a dogbone (which I love). In the first trial, I tested hooking onto the toggle with a carabiner which worked ok but distorted the toggle (the PVC "T"). In the second trial, I hooked the carabiner to the copper pipe, which slightly bent the pipe, but then I hooked the fixed eye of the dogbone over the pipe, which essentially transferred the force to "the knot, not the toggle."
I used to be a somebody, now I just camp.

    Found Some Hardwood.. I think

As stated before, I know didly nothing about my woods. I found some that was cut, round and hard. I'm going to drill it and give it a go.

On my PVC T, I had put a straight PVC piece in each end to give it more strength. It still didn't hold my weight. (257lbs) In fact, the Amsteel was melting into the PVC.

If all else fails, I can send you some gen-u-wine hickory from Indian Territory.

It's looking more and more like wood is just about the only way to go if you weigh over a certain amount (that I haven't bothered to figure out).

It was a no go again. The wood was fine. The Amsteel will not hold with my weight. It melts right into the wood. And that's with the half hitch on both sides of the wood. I could have tied a half hitch around the line as well, but even then, I would be pushing it. I think there's a limit with the weigh (I'm 257lbs) that just can't be undone no matter how hard the wood.

    Thanks for the offer.

I just finished making 1/8 Amsteel UCR's, and for once in the past week I didn't land on my back side.

Re: A sliding toggle (Yes, another suspension idea)

Ive just given this a try with 10mm aluminium round bar.. cut it to 50mm long and drilled a 3.5mm hole through the centre of it, from one side to the other.. it worked a charm.. (thank you to the op). Now, im not using amsteel.. i'm using 3mm climbing grade purlin cord (bs 404lbs) and 20mm tree straps.
There are no wrong ways to do things... Only alternative methods that don't work!!
