My try at the turtledog stand

This is my first post not counting my intro. I have been reading and learning for about 2 months now and finally signed up the other day.

Being in Boy Scouts we go places that trees are to far a part or we are not allow to use trees so I was inspired by the turtledog stand. I wanted a stand that was compact but still easy to setup.

So i thought how can I do this? My 1st attempt is below:
    6 - 3/4" conduit pipes 4' long
    6 - 1/2" conduit pipes 4' long
    5' section 4" PVC
    5' section 3" PVC
    1 PVC coupler 4" -3"
various metal fittings u-fittings, swivels etc
    para cord
    cotter pins

So I drilled holes in the 1/2" conduit about 1/2 from top and then middle of 3/4" conduit. Insert 1 1/2" into 1 3/4" line up holes and insert cotter pin this pole is now 6' long. put 3 together and lash putting in fittings that you want.
Put PVC pipe together you get 10' length of PVC hang between tripods put on hammock.
TO pack up collapse poles into each other 3' long put both tripods into 3" PVC then put into 4" PVC now have a 5' PVC package that has my tripod stand in it.

It is heavy so there is no just carrying around but I can leave it in the car ready to go at anytime.

Please let me know what you think good or bad. It is a work in progress and other then 2 nights in the basement it has not been really field tested.

Pics......need to get better ones these are from a phone sorry
    packed up looks like this:

    Start of unpacking:

    All unpacked:

    1 end and PVC:

Kids using it and a single nest between 2 poles:

    Thanks for checking it out.

Good job on the stand. I like the way it packs up. Welcome to HF from Athens, we seem to have a growing member base.
Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!

Wylie, don't think your stand is a Turtledog from what I see but is a nice evolution of the Turtlelady stand. Love the compact portability.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.

Very innovative and interesting! How much do the conduit legs overlap or rather insert?

My initial thought is considering how much the legs will dig in if you have soft ground.

Be great to see your lashing and attachments.

    Nice thinking!

They over lap 1.5 to 2' I put in 2 points so my daughter could use it too. I could probably raise it up a little more too but for me I don't think I need to.
Also thinking of making a little bit longer PVC pipe so I can get an 11' tarp over it, right now a 10' just fits.

As for digging in I had thought about using something like furniture sliders or some other small plastic disc to set the legs on. Any other ideas?
