Welcome from Sanford Florida..This is a great place to learn about Hammock Camping.
Welcome from Gainesville!
If you're looking for pointers, you joined at the right time to see everyone else's set ups. There're a couple of group hangs coming up in the next two months that might be doable for you, depending on where you are in the state.
In February, there is the 2nd Annual Sherpa Hang (planning thread below, in my sig), located in Lake Wales State Forest (towards the center of the state).
In March, there is the First Annual Bold City Hang (again, planning thread is below, in my signature), located in Cary State Forest, in the northeastern portion of the state.
Both would be great resources to talk gear and get an idea of how other folks do this hammocking thing. Neither should be a particularly far walk in from the parking lot (the Sherpa Hang is ~2 miles; the Bold City Hang hasn't been announced as to length of hike in, but it doesn't sound like it's far), and we welcome ground dwellers as well. Hope to see you there!
