    Down coming from quilt.

Ive got a new topquilt, only used it once. Is it normal for the down feathers to poke through the material? Im new to down. Its actually only one feather thats made a pinhole through the quilt.

I think that's normal. I have a few down items and every once in a while I'll see a feather coming out. Just as long as there is no noticeable hole or seam problems , I think you are fine.

grab it from the inside and pull it back in. pulling it out will make the hole bigger, and it may stay that size - allowing for real down to start seeping out. of course, one hole is no big deal. depends on the grade/quality of the down to determine how many feathers it has.

Probably the spine of a feather poking through fabric. Even the highest quality down will have a few small feathers in it and the best fabrics possible can still have a spine poke through. Follow Te-wa's directions, pulling it out through the fabric will just make the hole bigger pulling more and more clusters out through the hole. You can "seal" the hole by rubbing between your finger and thumb. Not really sealing just re-aligning fabric threads...

    Lesson:
DO NOT PULL THINGS THAT ARE POKING OUT A LITTLE BIT. Do not pull a thread, cut it off, you might unravel a whole seam. If a feather comes out, work on the fibres to go back into place. Other wise you will have a hole and down will escape.
A friend that also has a computer in his shoulder pulled what he thought was a stitch out of his incision, well the stitch kept coming out of the incision, all four inches of it. He was panic that he had pulled loose a lead. Nope just a fancy way of holding tissue together until nature could continue the job.
