Tying a loop in amsteel

Paul, were those Chain Links ordered to replace knotted loops that failed in service, or simply because the user preferred spliced loops?

I was told they had each been dropped. Not by knot failure in the rope but by the knot slipping apart. These were both "factory" tied knots as you had suggested not failing. That is where the main problem with knotting amsteel, it's slick and can slide over time. Through very rare.

I will be using the loop to attach a dutch biner and then wrap the amsteel round a tree a few times and clip the biner back onto the amsteel, so it shouldnt be taking my whole weight.
This will be on my edc hammock, which will only be used as a chair when I go out walking, so will only be in use for half an hour at a time.

What sort of safety factor could I use or should I be ok for this use?

I agree that splicing is the way to go.

But its better on the tree if you use straps rather than wrapping anything like Amsteel, or any kind of rope, around it.
