    I was told they had each been dropped. Not by knot failure in the rope but by the knot slipping apart. These were both "factory" tied knots as you had suggested not failing. That is where the main problem with knotting amsteel, it's slick and can slide over time. Through very rare.

    I agree that splicing is the way to go.

    But its better on the tree if you use straps rather than wrapping anything like Amsteel, or any kind of rope, around it.
