    No undercover question

I have two thermo-rest pads and the Solar Shade. Should I just throw them in the hammock or mix it up? I was thinking I could lay one pad length wise and one pad cross ways on top of the other then lay the solar shade down length wise Shiny side up.

I failed at finishing my under quilt for my HH last night. I’m camping tonight. Low 31* 91% Humidity. Frost is a concern. With my layers of clothes I was happy w/ a 50* bag and no under cover at 34*. I was building the under cover and was planning on sliding a Fabric solar shade into the undercover for a little more comfort. Too late now.

Probably won't need the solar shade with 2 thermo-rest pads under you. If you were happy at 34F, 31F won't be too much different and the 2 pads will more than make-up for any minor dips below the forecast. The 91% humidity is just the price paid for a night outdoors; I still haven't figured a way around it.
    Trust nobody!

I wanted to test out the Fabric Solar Shade as a Vapor Barrier. I really don't think it will make a diff with the humidity. I might leave it out or throw it on top like an over cover (out side the netting). There will be pleanty of ventilation due to the length. Maybe it will reflect some heat back down?

I really want the bragging right's that I slept outside on the coldest day of the year. I think I missed that yesterday :-)

For reflective insulation to work you have to have a dead air space between it and you - any other insulation, clothing, etc. will create this. I'm afraid in using it on top of your netting the air movement will remove any reflected heat. You'd be better off putting it under your sleeping bag, or even draped on top of your bag, but inside the netting.

Hope you have a warm hang.

the air pads already act as a vapor barrier, you will get some reflective properties from the sunshade though.

Thanks for the advice, Im gona criss cross them and "improvise" with the sunshade. I will be warm. This will be my heaviest, coldest camp this year. Bringing everything just to see how it works.

I have three or four alcohol stoves I'm testing as well. I wish I had a little more wind. :-(

It did not feel like it was colder outside the hammock Sat. morn vs last Mon. morn. Two thermorest criss crossed holds the entry slit open and makes me feel like I's sleeping on a pile of clothes. This was my last cold weather camp out until Nov or Dec. I will build my SS and pad by then!
