OK, I got to test my gear last night. It only got down to 24 last night, but there was quite a bit of wind.

I did sort of cheat, I had double underquilts last night.

My set up from a cross section view:
    13.5 x 10 tarp
    Hammock sock
    Ray Way over quilt
    ME
    Hybred hammock
    Patomic underquilt
    JRB No sniv.
    Hammock sock

    The ground

I was wearing all mentioned in my previous post plus a small thinsulite vest & a 2nd pair of wool socks. About midnight I took the gloves off & put them inside my fleece vest, The "Shug wrist warmers" did fine by themself keeping my hands warm.

I used my sit pad on the ground to stand on if needed, never really needed it.

The only time I got "cold" was the couple of times I found myself without an over quilt, aparently I got too hot & threw it off.

I did have a bit of a problem setting up, the ground was (& is) FROZEN*. So, after bending one stake beyond use, I had to tie off to firewood.

*The ground is so frozen, the local cemetarys are using jack hammers to dig graves "What usually takes us 30 minutes to dig, now is taking 3 hrs."
When you have a backpack on, no matter where you are, you’re home.

    Glad that went well ....
Did you have the sock over your head?
It feels so great to awaken warm in the cold does it not?
Wrist warmers really do help and I always keep some gloves in my pocket for late night chills.

Yep, the sock covers all of me, from about 1' below my feet to about 2' above my head. Also it's tapered at the foot & when I pull the draw cord, like on a stuff sack, it is tapered at the head. Without the tarp: I look like a big gray green cocoon hung between the trees.

I LOVE being warm in a place that is so cold. Was actually wishing it got as cold as it did Friday night,: 3 degrees in Cinti, with a wind chill that brought it down to -32. Sadly, I had to work

A big thanks for the wrist warmer tip!!! They do make a difference!
I had 3 pair of gloves with me: thin liner gloves, mid weight wool fingerless gloves & a pair of neoprene gloves. Never took the Neoprene ones out, but I'll still carry them, after all, it didn't really get that cold last night.

Just had to sneak that in there, didn't you?

I'm outfitting 4 of us so I haven't decided which ones I'm using yet, except for some combination of the MWUQ and JRB 11x10 tarp. Anyway, here's a tentative plan.

    Me:
    - HH BULA
    - MWUQ underneath
    - SD Wicked Fast and JRB Stealth on top
    - Wearing Thermawrap pants and either Thermawrap or REI Generator down jacket
    - JRB 11x10 tarp

    Joker:
    - DownHammock v2
    - Wiggys 0F bag
    - Torso pad under legs
    - Hammock Sock
    - Sharing JRB 11x10 tarp with me

    Erik
    - HH Explorer UL
    - JRB Nest+NS on bottom
    - His own bag on top
    - MacCat Standard tarp

    Erik's wife
    - DIY Speer-type hammock
    - 900fp PeaPod
    - CCF pad and her own bag inside
    - JRB 8x8 tarp

Depending on how bulky all this is, I also have some extra gear that I might bring just in case. Homemade SPE, CCFs, couple Warbonnets, etc.

I might have to invest in a wagon too! I'll probably at least have to make a couple trips unless my buddies show up to the parking area at the same time as me. I still have Coffee's Gearskin so I'll probably just pack 2 liners...carry one up and leave it, then return to the car for the other. Quick and easy, and it'll keep me from sitting around camp like I usually do up there! Although I do have to find a geocache this time b/c Joker has two travel bugs to get rid of.

Oh - and the cider, too. And something to warm it in. Maybe I'll just hire a sherpa...

You willing to sell any of those prototypes? You know I don't have much resistance for new toys...
