Learning rope basics

I read the blog. IMHO it falls far short of what we use and need here for material and construction basics. For instance most of the rope used here is UHMWPE based tubular braid not mentioned in your blog. Very little is kern mantle used for it's controlled stretch. You might want to go into when to pick hollow braid over tubular braid over twist laid over kern mantle as an example of a useful discussion. ;-) The blog is a good idea. My point is that there is a lot of information that folks should understand if they are going to do more than take what's on the rack at the local big box store.

Thanks for then input. This post was more generic, written for a broad audience. Once I get through the basics I will do a post on hammock specific rope. There are definitely many who are more well versed than me on hammock suspensions, but I am hoping I can contribute some of what I know of general rope work.
