Baffle direction

Ok guys, for no other reason than it’s been bugging me, I can't figure out why the baffles on TQ's don't run lengthways from head to foot like they do on most UQ's. I searched the forums and most of the threads discussed the benefits of lengthwise baffles on UQ's so I don't see why they wouldn't work just as well on TQ's.

I only use superior UQs, since mine come from some recognized makers here, To get maximum warmth from a down-filled top quilt I grab the outer seams, fold, and shake so the down is concentrated in the middle. Otherwise I would be compressing and tucking under me some of that insulating space.

RE: Your premise. i doubt JRB would have introduced their new uQs with the baffles running in the same direction as they do for most SBs and top quilts if it diminished the effectiveness. So, there's an exception to the industry practice you assumed.

This is the primary reason. It allows he user to shift some down out from where it won't do any good and into the center.

I also think that because a top quilt typically tapers from head to foot, it is easier to do horizontal baffles since they would all be parallel to the top or bottom edge. It would also allow for different amounts of down in the foot box.
