I was going to but I like to setup my tarp in porch mode and leave it that way ..so instead of going and finding sticks or cutting some sticks tying off to trees or a rock If I could find one here lol... I would just bring them. its ok to go out a little heavyer every once in a while . Also if i am hiking somewhere far I am bringing my WWM

There are several posts describing the process of using your trekking poles instead of the stock poles.

    Rod Blanks

Forgive my ignorance, but being a fisherman, are graphite fishing rod blanks considered "carbon fiber," or is it an entirely differrent material? Any body thought about using carbon fiber antenna masts? Or you could modifiy it into a big cellphone antenna. I know, I know ...

Way Way too flimsy! I saw this question, and so had to try it with carbon crossbow bolts that were 20" long. Cut the first arrow shaft so that I had a total length of 35.5 inches without the 4" extension and tried a few aluminum inserts before inserting 25" of a beeman carbon shaft totally inside both pieces and still way way too flimsy. Just using my hand pressure on the head end of the hammock put a extreme bend in the shaft of 6" without alot of load on the head end of the hammock. total weight of 2 complete sets (head & Foot end) would still be a dash over 3 oz so you still need more more strenght and thicker carbon shafts. For me, the hiking poles are still the way to go, and for porch mode of the tarp, using limbs or wood pieces around. I have never had a problem finding wood to use for porch mode. Would love to have a set of carbon spreader bars, but can't justify the expense.

Looks good. What would it be like to use a smaller diameter CF insert to join the sections? Lighter still? I would think that if glued in place it would function just as well.

Dutch we are about the same weight the ones I made are 1/2" OD and work great I thought about going to a smaller diameter but didnt want to worry about a failure the original bars from WB are 5/8"OD I believe .I think if you were to go smaller then 1/2" you would experience some flex in the bars ..

Detail Man I think that would work fine and it would be even lighter .I just had some TI and thought it would be a neat combination ..but the CF inserts would defiantly be lighter
