Hammock Camping now allowed in Prince William Forest Park for 2013

Prince William Forest Park (http://www.nps.gov/prwi/index.htm - for those the aren't familiar with it) up until yesterday did not allow hammocks. Fortunately that has changed. I just got this email in regards to an email I sent a few days back regarding the policy:

    "Dear Craig,

The management team discussed the camping hammock policy for the Chopawamsic Backcountry. The 2013 Park Compendium will allow and encourage the use of camping hammocks in the backcountry campground. Theses camping activities are still confined to the defined campsites - and some sites may not include trees that are appropriate for this activity.

Please stop by or call the the visitor center for more information on camping opportunities at Prince William Forest Park.

If you have further questions regarding the policies at Prince William Forest Park I would be happy to connect you with the Chief Ranger.

    Sincerely,"

Right now I am thinking that this might be my first overnight hammock camping stop since it is close to home (minutes away).

Hey that's good news. Interesting as well, I think they were intending to do this because, as I had said in another thread, when I worked with a team of biologists at the T.R.E.C. Building at prince william I had asked about hammocks and they said no problem.

So to finally change said language on the hammock policy is awesome! Say hello to the trec team for me will ya

Btw if you see any wisteria vines in the upcoming seasons can you kill it? Lol, thanks!

Btw, did they start construction on the new parking lot off of Joplin road?

I was flipping through the proposed plans and and environmental impact report last year. They are definitely going to make it nicer/more accessible.

It is marked as proposed on the map but I haven't seen anything on Joplin yet but to be fair I haven't gone up Joplin that far in more than a year so they might have already. I will have to take a look in the next few weeks. I have never been to the back country side of the park so I don't even know how to access the trail to the camp sites.

Re: Hammock Camping now allowed in Prince William Forest Park for 2013

Wait a minute, mahha was held at prince William!

You mean I worked there while a member of this forum, and I didn't even know!

Why would they not let mahha in? That doesn't make sense...
