    Rainfly Painting

Alright. The title may sound a little ridiculous but I wanted to get some feedback on my idea. I would like to use a stencil (White Tree of Gondor ) and use spray paint to mark both sides of the rainfly. Heres the kicker, I need to find a paint that is not only reflective to see in the dark (my main motivation for this) but it needs to not affect the waterproof coating on the silnylon and also not stick to itself. Any thoughts?? Thanks!

It is tough to get anything to adhere to silnylon......
Maybe you'll find the magic combo though.
    Carry forth.

Good luck getting paint to adhere well to silicone. I doubt you will have much luck.

can GE II silicone be dyed? That's what I used for my repair and it sticks great. You could certainly put sparkles in it...

Found this on another site. I keep turning up empty, but thanks all for the great ideas!

"My main concern with a silicon coating would be whether it prevents the dye from reaching the nylon, causing uneven dyeing. The silicon coating is intended to repel rainwater, after all. It is probably impossible to get a smooth single color with dye, as long as the silicon coating is intact. "

Would the kind of spray paint meant for plastics work?

Do you have any extra silnylon scraps you can test different paints on?

I think it sounds cool. I like little morale patches and stuff on my pack, so I can see the desire to spray a tattoo on your tarp. I'd really like to know if you get something that works, because I may have to steal the idea (different stencil though, I promise).

"krylon fusion contains methylene chloride, which bonds directly to certain plastics that are solvent bondable. If the material is nylon then the fusion doesn't work, if the material is previously painted then then there is a barrier between the plastic and the new paint and will not work properly."

found this on a automotive blog. Ill keep looking
