Hey Shawn. Four bar tacks are plenty. As long as you lock them.
You didn't sew those with the machine you got from me, did you?

WOW! How did I get unsubscribed from this thread! LOL!!! I have been slandered!
Squidbilly: No, I borrowed a newer machine that had the bar tacks from my buddy Jason. We have been working on stuff for the DSP/LRC Hammock Camping class we are gonna have this Fall. I am trying to outfit for 10 kids, so I have been having to learn how to make things for myself. Thank you for this addiction...
I just need to solidify the money for some underquilts, buy a couple tarps, make a few stoves and put together and mod some IMUSA cook kits. The hammock is going to be made during the class, in the woods.
Swank: I hope you and your kin are ok! I tested the straps by using it as a noose to pull large saplings out of the ground with my truck. I was satisfied that they will not fail. (Do not read the next line, please)
Squid-b: That is not recycled thread, it is unwaxed halloween dental floss.
Risk: Thanks for the tip on the mule tape. I am gonna be trying that soon, and I would have had that question eventually for sure
Thanks again everybody for the tips!

I do 6 straight stitch bartacks locked together with diagonal stitch lines, all one piece of thread. They hold my girthy frame just fine. I'm sure they could probably tow my truck. Its just amazing how a little thread can be so strong.

I do double box stitches, with the top most and bottom most being bartacks, and they seam to be great.
I have done bartacks, logitudinal stitches, double X box, etc.
none have failed.... Sew your own straps...
