    Never again…

Took my two dogs on a hike in the Sipsey Wilderness this weekend. This being Dixie's first time I took my two-man tent because she was not used to sleeping all night under my hammock like Lucy and I didn't want all of the night sounds keeping her awake barking and in turn keeping me awake. Well after a 10 mile hike Saturday she and Lucy slept from about 6:30 until 6:30 but I did not sleep a wink. I forgot just how awful it is to sleep in a tent on the ground but I was reminded why about six years ago I converted to a hammock. I will not make that mistake again, never.

Kinda like that Joni Mitchell lyric, "You don't know what ya got till it's gone."

I have on different occasions considered a tent, then some common sense strikes me up the side of the head.

Just a little reinforcement of a previously learned truth.

Curious: what type of pad were you sleeping on?

BillyBob, it was a 1/2" ccd with an older air mattress together. It was a shorty air mat from years ago with individual tubes inflated separately. I forgot who made it now. I used it many miles on the AT 30 years ago. I have a neo-air but did not take it for fear that the new young dog might puncture it. Still I'm just too old for that nonsense.

    Amen. Stay off the ground

Never say never, it has a way of getting back at you! ;-)

The last time we slept on the ground we ended up buying our first Motor Home.
    YMMV
