I have been hiking at Sky Meadows and planned to check out the back country camping area in the next few weeks. That is a beautiful park.
I am interested in some areas near the Staunton/Harrisonburg/Lexington areas.
Past Staunton towards WV on route 250 is Ramsey's Draft. To a group of scouts there a couple years back. Its about an 18 mile loop, good for a weekend. It is one of the last virgin growth forests on the East coast. There used to be these gigantic elms. Sadly invasive bugs have killed them off. Now there arethese huge 10' diameter trees across the trails. Fortunately some make the stream crossings a lot easier.

Just North of Lexington is BSA Camp Goshen. There are some great trails there that are part of is High Adventure camp Len Hoksen. It is the Camp for the National Capitol Area Council. I've been there several times and love it there.

St Mary's Wilderness is also in the Staunton area, rugged and very beautiful...lots of great places to hang. also, the Goshen Pass area is very nice too.
Lot's of nice looking spots out west. My list of future camp sites is definitely growing.
