No raw fabric left at this point, sorry. We're waiting on our second roll to get here to finish a few last initial orders and to make the cuts for the rest of the scouts' hammocks. If there's anything left at that point, we may open it up again. That'll be next week, though.

Breyman - Awesome project. I'm the scout master for our troop here in North Georgia. We are doing a similar thing for the scouts in our troop. I bought about 120 yards of rip-stop (some 1.1 ACU and some 1.9) and I'm am in the middle of sewing 30 hammocks for my scouts. I have to say that when I started this project a month or so ago, my sewing skills were pretty basic. However I have to say I can now sew a mean double-stitched rolled hem.

Our plan is to take a couple of scout meetings and let the boys build whoppie slings, tree huggers, and teach the boys how to do a basic set-up. Fun project and it will add a new dimension to our monthly campouts and scout camp.

I love your idea of ordering extra supplies to off-set some of the costs. Wish I would have thought of that!

Nice - great minds think alike!

Good idea on how much to let them do. I've been going back and forth on that trying to find the balance of how much they can do vs. how much time and resources (number of machines, number of folks there to help make sure they're safely used, etc.) are needed.

    fabric weight

I measured and weighed my roughly 16 yards x 65 inches today, interpolated around my scale's stated accuracy only to the nearest .1 ounce and its tendency to think that a pound of butter weighs 16.2 ounces, and came up with a likely weight range of between 1.89 and 1.91 ounces per square yard.

My reaction? That's great. I like the feel of this fabric. It's going to make great hammocks and be reasonably strong.

I like the feel of it, too. A bit different than many of the others I've used. It's nice - almost tafetta like.

Thanks for sharing your weights so far all!
