Tripod for hammock chair. Hammaka is seller( mgf ).

    8 feet high

Question for those who understand these things : with cross-pole would this be good for portable hammock ?

If it holds the chair with up to 350 lbs., as stated, it should be strong enough. It's taller than my Turtledog stand, so it might need a longer ridge pole. Probably better to shorten the legs if you could do that without losing the bottom bracing. Maybe cut the top sections to 6" or less. Heavy, (though it could be worse). Bulky, (ditto). Expensive. HYOH.

I think two of these would work well for a hammock stand. You can drop your ridge pole down with loops to whatever height you need. At 48" and 9 pounds per end, it is a reasonable handling package, if somewhat pricey. Yet, it avoids all the expense of a series prototypes. : ) Go for it and report with pictures! I would like to see details of how the telescoping sections lock into place, and the connection points at the top of the tripod. Perhaps, if you desire, you could shorten by not telescoping them to their full extension by a simple mod pin and drilling? The biggest liability IMHO, may be having the spread limiters at the very bottom. This might limit where they can be used.

Thought others might find this useable, if it worked for our type of rig.

    Product Description
The Hammaka Portable Tripod is the ultimate hammock chair accessory, allowing you to hang your chair wherever and whenever you'd like. The Tripod is constructed of sturdy, lightweight aluminum, which maximizes its durability and ease of transport. It weighs less than nine pounds and is able to hold weight up to 350 pounds. When folded, the Tripod is 4 feet long and 11 inches in diameter. When fully extended, the height is eight feet and the base is 5 feet between legs. The Hammaka Tripod can turn your Hammaka chair into your constant traveling companion, letting you Climb In and Hang Out anywhere, anytime.

    on Amazon it says 12 lbs;
12lbs each tripod plus ridgepole weight. Not too bad for vanCamping

Hmmm. Just read the mixed reviews. Not very reassuring, for the price.

    Yes. Saw that.
The Hammaka site does mention staking out.

$87 each is not bad for the convenience if it would be used for a long trip or many times.

I have a traditional metal frame that is fine for me and takes less than 7mins to setup. Arthur needs a taller frame, at least one that raises him.
Had looked for the pipe extensions, for existing frames, about a month ago, recently amazon emailed (suggested) the tripod info.

Arthur ( husband ) is talking about taking a cross country trip to visit our friends on the Oregon coast. Camping and exploring along the way.
This would allow us to hang in friends and relatives backyards when visiting and always have hang ability when at public campgrounds.

Although, I don't expect A to move on the idea soon. Thought the price wasn't going to be available often.

Someone, HF member, posted this extension sometime last year.
    ( fame only )
    http://hatterashammocks.com/detail.php?id=CPY-BRTX

2inch pipe ( called, forgot to ask the length ) looks about 2ft

This may be a solution for our existing traditional frame setup.

Does anyone have experience with these ?
Is there a problem with metal failure ?

    Arthur is 6'3", 215 to 230 (depending).

The tripod may be the best solution for someone his height.
A slightly better view on the mfg site :http://www.hammaka.com/products/Hamm...pod-Stand.html

Expect if the telescoping buttons don't hold, a drill-thru the pipe with pins would be strong and make height adjustable.
Also, staking the feet if on ground, not patio surface,

    Any thoughts ! !

I was going to post "yes but pricey" until I read the "sinking" review.

For about the same $$ as one tripod and a few extra pounds, you can make one of these with the ridgepole and both tripods.

Just don't buy the poles from the source in my links (shipping too costly). Others have found better sources.

    Very interesting type of setup.

You have had continued success with the setup ? How much weight ?

What condition were the "used" poles ?
"Others have found better sources." can you direct to the source/link ?

Have other HF members tried this ?

Guess I will jump back into reading the very lengthy turtledog saga.

    turtlelady,

This is how I also imagined it.

Hoped the tripod might be a simpler way to get a 300+ lb rating; then add some security.
Arthur will not "be comfortable" if it looks like it will not hold a tall guy.

I am back to looking at all ( some ) of the turtledog designs.
    So many very nice ones.

    Thank you for your opinions.
