    Hammock Camping SC

My dad is really into hammock camping... I have started making my own gear. Id like to take him camping for his birthday. We are located in Ridgeland near Hilton head island and beaufort. I'm looking for suggestins on a nice place to camp aprox 2 hr or so drive from us or less. We have some nice sites real close but I kind of want to make it a getaway. Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestions guys I will check into Congaree! We Hung in the woods behind my house last friday. Weather man lied said it was supposed to be 40 degrees that night. I got really cold around 4am crawled out of the hammock around 7am to find ice on the ground. No wonder I was cold. Guess I need to make a top quilt now! Lol

It may not be much of a change of scenery for you but I had a good time hanging on Cumberland Island, GA (near St Mary's, about 2 hours and change south). You have to take a ferry over to the island and there's a couple of primitive sites on the island with just a hand pump and no facilities. The views from Brickhill Bluff were very nice. I think there are a couple of reviews here on the forums somewhere.

Santee state park is another good one. Also welcome to the madness.
Life looks better from a BIAS hammock.

Again, this may not be much change of scenery, but Hunting Island State Park is great! www.campsitephotos.com has pictures of most of the campsites there (& a few other SC state parks)...I used the pictures to try to determine which site would be best for hanging.

Hope you and your father come to the Spring Swing. A local hang is a great place to meet like minded folks, have lots of fun, see lots of gear and learn new techniques. You and your father will have a great time, and we would love to meet you both.
