I don't have a lot of nights in the hammock yet, so take this for what it's worth.
I've gone with and without a pillow.
If I sleep on my back, I don't need the pillow. If I sleep on my side, I find I like to have the pillow. If I have extra clothes, I'll just use them.

I recommend getting out there and trying your setup.

I can't imagine how excited you must be. Jealous.

    side tie out to tarp

In my HH I clip the side tie outs to the tarp and only use two stakes.

I used to bring one stake "just in case", and would use sticks found on site or en route. I don't know what kind of conditions you will encounter, but often I am able to tie off to things around me. Rocks, roots, smaller trees and shrubs etc. That said, I bring pack stakes now because I find they work better for me in rockier ground. They don't weigh very much and pack well.
I stake my hammock out maybe 65% of the time depending on how lazy I am or how gnarly the weather is. It doesn't seem to affect comfort much for me.

Those rings look exactly like the ones I got from MEC (Canadian REI) they work awesome.
Is your Hennessey a bottom entry one or zippered? I sold mine and miss it.
Have a great and safe trip.
Mine is the classic bottom entrance.

I think this will probably be my situation most of the time too.

Pillow = stuff sack + fleece top. If you really want a bit better add a piece of fleece to one side of the stuff sack. It breathes better than nylon. ;-)
    YMMV

Cool. Yea, I thought if I really needed one I'd just bunch up a shirt or something. I'm a really easy sleeper and I don't move much. I'm basically a zombie. Flat on my back and I never move.

If you're going to use a stuff sack anyway, you might want to look at this:
http://www.amazon.com/Granite-Gear-G.../dp/B000XUJ96S A silnylon stuff sack with fleece sewn on one side.

yup..then like you i found a softer lay without tieing out the hammock, never tied out again, helps reduce leg bite for me too.

I like the bridges now and have converted my survivor into a bridge on the foot end ,and a gathered end on the head end, with a spreader bar to hold it open. This is by far the most comfy ive been in a hammock. The exit is at the foot end.

If you are using the HH standerd tarp I would recommend upgrading to a hex. The weather seems blow sideways on the AT.
