Well, of course I'm not the respected forum member that goes by that name, but I am Dutch. That is, I'm from the Netherlands.
In the end of september, I graduated from university (in Computer Engineering) and my parents wanted to give me something. I'd been thinking about buying a TTTM double hammock, so they got me one
Just before Christmas, I took the big step and spent a night outdoors in my hammock. With mixed results. It was fun and I did manage to sleep, only when I woke up, I wasn't really rested (never knew there was a difference between sleeping and resting until that day). My guess is that it's because I slept on my back, instead of on my side (which is what I do normally). But I won't give up. One day, I'll sleep just fine in a hammock.
Last sunday, I went out with my hammock to take some pictures to put here.
My TTTM double hammock pitched. I use 1" wide ratchet straps as tree huggers.
I put a marlinspike hitch in the straps and connect the hook of my hammock through a dyneema continuous loop.
A different view of the marlinspike hitch, including my toggles. One day I was looking around in a local DIY store and found these. I bought a couple of them and I only had to add the loop. I'm not sure what they're used for officially, but they work great as toggles.
I also bought a cheap sleeping bag and tried to make a decent underquilt of it. But it's a bit too narrow to lie in the hammock diagonally, so it needs some more work.
Things I want to add to my setup:
- An adjustable ridgeline
- A better way to use the sleeping bag as underquilt
- Some weather protection would also be nice.
Oh, I almost forgot: thank you all for putting a huge amount of information online
