No, no. I wouldn't dream of telling someone what gear they should use. Although I am curious what quilt you're carrying that is 3 lbs. Is it a snythetic?
My Rocky Mtn. Sniveler is only 28oz and it's a long. My Winter Yeti is lighter, I just haven't put it on the scale recently enough to be able to remember. But, I can guarantee that it's nowhere close to 3 lbs.

    Curious minds want to know.

It's my homemade underquilt, made from an old Backside Down bag. I cut off the hood and the zipper and that's about it. It was three lbs as a sleeping bag. The quilt itself is about 2.5 lbs, but it lofts so big that I need a compression sack to fit it in my pack. (remember I'm also carrying a Western Mountaineering 20 degree bag) Those two could just about fill my backpack if I just put them in a trashcompactor bag. After all my recent purchases, I just can't justify the expense of a new underquilt... So it's on my want list.

Starting AT thru on April 6

Great to see I won't be the only one from HF on a thru. Is anyone trying to meet up at the campout in Hot Springs? I'm going to try to make it but that might be pushing it for my start date. Only time will tell. Good luck everyone!

I am seriously kicking around a 2010 Southbound. I am working on getting out of debt, getting in shape and increasing my savings this year. If all of that works out then I'm on the trail in June 2010.

Last year there were a lot of thru hikers at the Hot Springs hangout. There were some of us (Hooch and myself) that arranged to pick up hikers and give them a lift to the hang. I'll be picking my son (Nest) up from somewhere and taking him. Lot of people willing to do this. Just keep folks posted of where you are and it can probably be worked out.

Lost, thanks for the heads up I'm hoping to plan it so I will be hitting hot springs at the right time but I will post to try to get a ride if I’m behind schedule. Hope to see you there!

    I'm leaving in 8 days!!!!!

Is there any chance HammockForums can set up a bail fund for me? I might need it this year since I plan on out doing last year, and it's a miracle I didn't get caught doing some stuff, or there wasn't sufficient probable cause last year.
