My wife recently provided additional proof of the OP's opinion. She is an avid day-hiker but not a camper, however, I convinced her to attend the Annual Florida Hang last month.
She emphatically said to me, "I get it now. It's not about the hammocks, it's about the people!"
She's already packed for next year!

I couldn't agree more! Shug might have made me want to hang, but Hammockforums made it all possible. I never would have gotten to the level of skill and knowledge that i am at without the help from everyone here.

Well said, OP and every one responding so far! That is the atmosphere I found when I showed up here 6 years ago. Similarly, when I put faces with user names after I got to my first group hang ( Neo's fall get together ) the next fall after joining:

and on later backpack trips to the Sipsey with groups of HF folks. On the net or in person, this is just a bunch of folks who enjoy helping other folks out, especially when it comes to helping noobs learn how to use a hammock!

On that "answering the same NOOB questions over and over," sometimes the answer changes, as things evolve.
Keep movin', keep believing and enjoy the journey!

I couldn't agree more. I'm a prt of several forums but nothing like this. I come here every day; yes, for the information and technical help, but mainly for the people. The character of the charaters is what impresses me. I long for the chance to hike and hang with the folks I've talked to, with and read about (maybe even sing a harmony with the Hickery Brothers). Brothers wife was right...it's the people, not the hammocks.

And it just keeps getting better.

And it just keeps getting better and better. I posted a message earlier this week simply asking a question about what product or DIY solution I could buy/make to do something and BAM! Someone offered to send me something that they had lying around, that they didn't need, that THEY paid for AND they sent it to me on their own dime. Its that kind of genuineness that makes others, myself included, want to give to others and contribute. It Blew my mind. Amazing.
