Do you use a groundsheet and if so what?

I've been wanting to use a groundsheet (launchpad as some call it) under my hammock for a while. I think it would be nice to have a dry and mud free sheet to step onto in the morning.

Does anyone else use one and if so what do you use?

I was thinking of using some builders tarpaulin but its quite heavy and doesn't pack very small, so won't be using that. I would like something that is light, packs relatively small and is hard wearing. Any suggestions?

No. It's just one more thing to keep up with...impedimenta.

Many use a bit of Tyvek.

    yep, so many uses

and we call it a 'welcome mat'...mine is tyvek. used so many times and washed in a machine and/or creek its soft as butter and soundless. Not that you'd ever go to ground post failure, but if you do it's something between you and wetness. Once used it to collect rain water...just dug a hole in the ground, depressed the tyvek in the hole, and it filled up. The number of potential uses are like a bandanas so I wont write a tome.
Sometimes you'll have to weight it down=boots/backpack/rocks/whatever....
Sometimes it's called a landing pad for the 0200 irrigation of the immediate surround.
I'd like to get creative and put my avatar on it...

Mine is just a heavy duty trash bag... If rain comes all my gear that's not hanging gets dropped in it for a dry bag... But hang your own hang...

I use a 15" square piece of 1/4"ccf that I keep handy for sitting on logs etc or I sit on it in the canoe. Its just big enough to comfortably stand on when entering/exiting the hammock.
    Good luck,

I cut down a piece of blue tarp I got from Lowes. Works for me. Cheap.

+1 on the Tyvek, I use the one I made for my Contrail Tarptent. Spred it out on the wet / muddy / snowing ground and pull out your gear to retrieve the item that inevitably found its way to the bottom of the pack. With the pack on the ground, wrap the Tyvek around it to keep off rain / dew. In the morning, pile all the gear on the Tyvek; packing is easier when you see all the gear in one spot.
