The test in the rain stayed Mainly on the Plane

My first test of my new hammock and rain tarp. My wife thinks I have officially had my cheese slide off my cracker.

Sunday last I knew it was going to rain and as I 've not had a chance to test out my HH with the Hex tarp, I thought...Giddy Up!

Set up Saturday afternoon, hung for a bit and then waited for the "storm" to come. Sunday morning about 10:30 a.m. CST sugarbooger and her sister start to comment on the coming "storm". I go to my hammock, Kindle in hand, and settle in for "the storm". About thirty minutes later the bottom comes out of the heavens and it's looking like the apocolypse. The lightning and thunder were enough to make ME think my cheese had slid off my cracker.

In about 4+ hours we get almost 3 inches...most of it sideways. Me? Safe, snug and warm in my hammock. Dry as a bone. The best part was watching my wife, or my sister-in-law or one of my kids come to the door every 10 minutes, look out, shake their head and walk away.

Worth the price of admission everytime.

There's just something about both the look on somebody's face and the sound of rain on a tarp that makes a feller smile.
I used to be a somebody, now I just camp.

I can imagine the feeling. I get the "your nuts" look from family and friends when I tell them I am going winter camping. Another bright side is that you got 4+ hours to yourself in the hammock and didn't have to worry about anything that was going on in the house.

Great spot you've got to set up your hammock.

    Cheers

Having just taken delivery of my 2nd explorer with a hex tarp, this makes great reading - can't wait to get out and hang, next week at half term maybe!

I sometimes test gear hanging out at the woods next to the office, and stroll into work across the snow with a steaming mug of coffee to staring eyes and shaking head.

The only problem is I oversleep.
