    Help sewing grosgain!

I have been trying to get grosgain to neatly sew to whatever I am sewing it on. I was doing one stitch on one side, then folding it over and doing another...however I want to be able to do both stitches that go through the grosgrain completely. I feel like my pinning technique is lackluster in this department.

Any advice, or how you folks do it?

    Thanks!

Iron it before you sew! Set the iron on cool, fold the grosgrain in half and crease it with your fingernail. Iron a small section at a time, being careful to make the two halves equal size.

I would avoid ironing plastics. Aren't most grosgrain ribbons polyester or nylon?

Ironing this stuff is no problem. I do it all the time. Just set it on a lower setting.

Neat...I am assuming this makes it soft and easier to fold. Does it keep the crease?

Thanks for the tip, sounds incredibly helpful Andi well be trying it out tomorrow.

I just fold it in half and run it over a hard edge a little bit at a time. It puts a crease in it and makes it easier to fold over the material and sew.

+1 on ironing and +1 on folding and running over a hard edge.

+2 on pins and lots of them.
Maybe give a try to pre-folded grosgrain if you can find it.
If you're ironing it, try putting a t-shirt on a countertop and use that for your ironing surface. Most ironing boards are too soft for the low temp press hard technique that you need to use on grosgrain.
    Good luck!

If it's a small item an elmers washable glue stick is wonderful. Just let it dry completely before sewing or it will make a mess of your needle.
