    Sailrite Ultrafeed LS-1

Is anyone using the Sailrite Ultrafeed LS-1 for making hammock gear? I am looking to purchase a new machine and this one has my interest.
    thanks,

I think it is doubtful that you can do the type of projects that we do with that machine (but I'm not all that knowledgeable in the sewing realm). I don't think it will be able to effectively use a small enough needle. I looked into buying a Barracuda (another heavy duty sail/canvas machine) and was told by the manufacturer that it wouldn't work on lighter fabrics and small needles.

If the LS-1 won't work on ripstop... I'll buy it off of you for $20

I use a LSZ-1 which is the zig-zag version, it is a great machine. For heavier weight fabrics it is great, it takes a little getting use to sewing lighter weight materials though, but it does sew them. If you plan on sewing only lighter weight materials you might want to check out the Juki DDL-8700, it is around the same price and handles the lighter weight materials easier. I have both machines and they both do a great job. The 8700 can also handle the heavier weight Xpac materials good as well. But if you are going to sew thicker items/multiple layers the LS-1 will be a little easier with the walking foot. If you look into the 8700 make sure you get one with a servo motor and not a clutch, the servo motor handles better.
