The madness continues! I finished my Yeti Clone UQ yesterday and finished my the_lorax inspired TQ today. I am stoked!
My creation isn't a "wearable" TQ per-se like Lorax's is. I liked; however, the idea of keeping the sleeves and using one of the jackets without having to take it apart...and it works great.
To begin with, I bought seven puffer coats (to seed all of my JCP projects)and took all of them all the way apart except one. I tried all kinds of different mixes and matches with the material and made piles for each project. I'm still going and will keep sewing until I run out!
Materials required for this version (there are plenty of leftovers for other projects):
Three Puffer Coats. (one for the top and two to get the back panels from).
Four front panels with the zippered pockets removed.
Your choice of ribbon.
Shock Cord and cord lock(s).
I started by removing the zipper and the stretchy strip off the bottom of the coat. I covered where the zipper was with ribbon.
I sewed two coat backs together and then sewed them to the bottom of the coat.
I sewed four front panels together and then sewed them to the bottom of the coat backs.
Next came the footbox. I sewed a permanent stitch for two or so feet to bring the bottom seam of the footbox together. I added shock cord to the bottom to serve as a ventilated closure.
All seams were covered with ribbon for a nice protected and finished look.
I am 6' tall and this is a perfect length for me. All coats sacrificed for this project were 4XL.
It weighs in at 25 oz/705 Grams in the puffer stuff sack.
