    pondering DIY top quilt

And I have a few questions.

First, I plan on making one that will be good for 40's plus. A sewn threw design would be fine right? I am scared of making baffles right now, but I feel I can handle a sewn through design.

How much down will be needed to reach a 1.5" loft required for 40 degrees? 850 Wilderness Logics down will be acquired.

I am thinking of using M50, is that for the outside shell, or the inside shell?
What would be good material for the opposite?

I was browsing you tube to see if I can find any videos on top quilt construction but came up short. Does anyone know of any?

    Thanks.

The DIY forum has a sticky by te-wa - that may help. Also, I've heard that sewn through designs can be much more difficult to manage than a baFfle design since you need to wrangle to separate and slippery pieces of material

Here is a link to a top quilt I will be making soon. It might be close to what you have in mind.

You may find the thread I started when making my TQ helpful. In there are some links to other TQ projects I found helpful.

I would not be afraid to do a baffle design. It was not that difficult and my sewing experience is minimal. If I were to do another quilt, I would use traditional baffles rather than karo step. While there is more to sew, I think traditional baffles would be easier because you don' have to turn the fabric awkwardly as you do in the karo step baffles.

Good luck on your project! Let us know how it goes.
