    Hanging in the Enchantments?

So a buddy of mine, a ground dweller, proposed a backpacking trip this summer into the Enchantment Lakes area up in Washington. It looks amazingly beautiful from the pictures I have seen, however it looks like it may be predominately above tree line and thus creates a bit of a problem for hanging. I'm wondering if anyone has been up that way and can shed any light on the subject of possibly hanging in that area. As always any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi, I did some climbing there at the "Flagpole" that peaks at almost, if I remember correctly, nearly 8000 feet! Anyway, I hammock camped on the shoreline of Talisman Lake. Plenty of Larch trees to be found.
At times it can be tough to get a permit and at times there is a lottery in place I would call ahead for that and also check there were no previous fires in the area you desire. Hope that helps...Happy Hanging!

FYI its a Lottery permit. Meaning you may or may not get the permit. Wouldnt be to hasty to take off work until you get the permit.

You can absolutely hang in the Enchantments. Spent 5 nights up there in 2009 in a hammock and another 5 last September in a hammock. Unless you want to camp at the far Upper Basin lakes (Isolation), you'll be fine. It just gets better as you go down (assuming you come up Asgaard Pass). Nobody really camps up there anyway, so pretty much any site you pick you'll be okay.

It can get cold up there, so make sure your insulation is right, but it's the best hangin' I've ever done without question. Bring a fishing rod

    Good luck on the lottery!

Thank you all. I am crossing my fingers that my buddy who is putting in for the lottery does indeed get lucky for us. I'm even more excited now to know that I will be able to hang up there if we do go.

Yeah, I know...and there are also a limited number of "day of" permits too...lucky for me, it's in my backyard, so if I don't get a permit, I can try for one of those...I had permits last year but had to cancel....
