Enoree District of the Sumter National Forest for you SC hangers

Anyone did any hanging in the Enoree District of the Sumter National Forest? I'm itching to get out and a backcountry permit for dispersed camping is free. There's a lot of acreage, I'm just wondering if anyone has done it before? Thanks.

Back when the Earth was cooling and dinosaurs roamed, I went back there with my old Scout troop if my failing memory serves me. Wish I could remember.
I used to be a somebody, now I just camp.

I worked in Woodruff from 2005-2008 and my ex-Wife is from there. Her and her new husband and my kids still live there. I am there each weekend to pick them up. It is a small world.

Only camping I have done in this particular Sumter Forest has been at Brickhouse campground. Between Newberry and Clinton. I do know that the Palmetto Trail has been established through the Enoree area and there were plans at one time to construct a swinging bridge over the Enoree River but I have not kept up with that progress. There may also be a section unfinished due to the railroad but it quickly picks back up. I would suggest contacting the Enoree Ranger Station (Sumter Natl Forest) for more up to date info. It's been years since I have been there so it's possible some minor changes have been completed/made/re-routed.

I also believe recalling a couple of camping areas near two or three lakes that connect the Palmetto Trail. Possibly a nice trip with a hike to a camp site, fish 1-3 ponds and then hike out. The more I start to recall this area, the more it seems like I need to do some personal investigation. Fairly close by too. I just hope it has been maintained.

I worked nearby, in Clinton between 1995 and 2000, as an outdoor instructor for a juvenile facility. Great memories...

I just hiked the northern section of the Enoree passage on the Palmetto trail. They have a really well built bridge crossing the Enoree river. I am actually planning to camp one of these sections as well and do some fishing while in that area. I love the fact that you can primitive camp anywhere and I love that the permit is free. I spoke with someone at one of the Park offices and they said they can even fax or email the permit to you before hand.
