    Amsteel dogbones

What do you think is the shortest you can make a dogbone? I read hpyfngy's measurements for his 14.5" ones, gonna do a few of those, but I need some real short ones as well. Need to hold me up, so I need a good bury though. Would 2.5" loops on a 6-8" middle work? Thx

Why not do a continuous loop? You could probably get that down to about 6 inches.

Gonna hang one loop from a shackle, and larks head the other. Prob need more line for continuous loops, and order is already placed.

Changing my TD stand already. Larks head through existing screw eye in top rail, or just around rail itself.

I like a continuous loop to hang the ridge pole. I can larks head it to the rail, wrap it around once or multiple times to adjust the height of the ridge pole for different hammock/suspension setups.

In this photo the loop is wrapped twice around the ridge pole...

I'm starting to like the cont loop idea, but it brings up another question. Is that strong enough to just place the loop through a shackle, think like a chain link, then pass the bottom of the loop through an eye bolt I already have in my top rail and around the end of the rail and under it, like hooking up an 8 ring? No larks head, just basically the shackle and top rail resting inside the loop, but removeable.

A properly constructed Amsteel continuous loop is at least as strong as a comparable dogbone. What are you trying to do?

I use continuous loops for this, the adjustability factor trumps. Dog bone is either full length or half length.

Using 7/64 Amsteel and a 5.5 inch bury, a continuous loop has proven unbreakable for us outside of extraordinary measures (like towing tractors behind a truck).

Sorry, prob should have just started new thread. Moved on from dogbone to cont loop. Was just curious about basically using it like a link instead of wrapping/larkshead around object, ie, it not pulling apart. Think grabbing both sides of a hoola hoop and trying to pull apart.
