    Suggestions for hiking poles w/RR?

    Hey, y'all.

I'm looking for some good hiking poles that'll work well as spreaders for the Ridgerunner. I've read the thread about the Mountainsmith poles, and am keeping those in mind. But I'd also like some other options to peek at. I was really hoping for cork handles, but I'll take what I can get. And I'm trying to keep the cost relatively low, around $50-$60 for a set.

    Anyone have any other suggestions?

    Thankee!

Let us know if you find anything better than the Mountainsmiths, especially if they have flicklocks. The Mountainsmiths work great as spreader bars but I'm not a big fan of the twistlocks.

Hmmm, I believe I saw a video Grizzly Adams did with this exact modification using cork handled trekking poles. If memory serves me right, he just pushed down on the cork handles till the pole spiked through, creating a hole in the handle....

    Grizzly Video

I think the cork gripped poles that you are referring to were Gossamer Gear LT4's. This was in his video about making a lighter bridge tarp.

I have modified one of my Gossamer Gear light trek 4 poles (per Grizzly Adams) for the head end spreader bar. It works decently, but it appears that the light treks, being 2 section poles are too long for the foot end (my light treks are the longer length ones, so the shorter ones might work, if GG is still selling shorter ones).

They also sell an extender that may work. I don't believe they are selling the shorter ones any longer

I went with the Mountainsmith poles. At $16.95, I figure it's certainly worth a shot, given everyone else's feelings about them.
