Same thing with the rocky desert floor we experience here in the Sonoran Desert. You have to really try hard to get your **** stakes in.

    Stake Storage

    Nothing fancy here Down Under,
The material used in these stuff sack holders is almost impossible to penetrate; weighs under 1oz; is already the right size and shape to just slip into your pack and holds all the stakes you'll need for any length trek. There is also room for guylines, tarp tensioners and assorted lines or shock cord.
The case is made of a 'pet 5' plastic, so is recyclable if damaged. I've been using this one for 3 years now and no sign of a puncture or of the case falling apart and if it was the ubiquitous duct tape would soon fix it.
If you need a stuff sack then your new stake storage costs nothing.
    Cheers

I use the smallest Express Mail envelope from USPS. It's tyvek. I use a couple larger ones for other purposes.

No Stakes. here. My location could be chaged to Soggy Bottom, USA. My Closet State Park is the Big Thicket. There is always a bush are something to tie off to. My biggest problem is finding a clearing to camp at. Most trees are too close together or there is to much underbrush.

I use a plastic toothbrush holder (cheap, reasonably light, puncture proof) for my two MSR stakes. The toothbrush holder fits in the Hennessy stuff sack with the rest of my hammock kit.

I sewed a small stuf sack for MSR GroundHogs. Works for me.

I wrap stakes along with BMBH spreader bars in a 24x30 inch piece of tyvec and put the bundle in the side pocket, secures br the compression strap at the top.... All metal parts (other than the pot) in one exterior bundle... no risk of puncturing anything.... In camp or at rests the tyvek provides a small ground cover for sitting, field kitchen or a mat where my feet swing out of the hammock....Multi use and saves carryiing the stake sack.

Good job, Rice! I see you got the DIY bug. What's your next project?
