Searching the interweb I found this interesting video taken at Perry Lake in 2011:

making sure I'm hearing what you're saying -- Friday meet at the OMT trailhead (green) and hike in a couple of miles beofre setting up camp. Saturday hike 5-ish more to finish out section 2 (red) then set up camp for the night around Longview park, and on Sunday break camp, have a leisurely breakfast, and hike the 7 miles back to the OMT trailhead where we parked Friday?

I suggested doing just the OMT Section of the trail. (the green portion); Section 2 East(OMT).

Doing about 1/2 on Friday...the other half on Saturday...and backtracking Sunday. But that was just an idea.

(1.75mi Friday + 1.75 Saturday and then the whole 3.5 back out on Sunday.

Some folks may not be interested in doing this and I willing to accommodate to whatever folks are comfortable with doing.

My original suggestion was a bit confusing...but it made sense in my head...lol.

I just meant UP TO Section 2 West...then back out.

I like Ramenshaman's suggestion. I think I need to remember that I'm an out of shape middle aged man...not the young wonder pony I used to be! LOL.

Doing a couple of short (<2mile) stints, wrapped up by the 3.5 mile jaunt out on Sunday is probably wiser than trying to cover much more than that on a first real hike...in a long time! LOL!

I also like the idea of that second day being near the lake for water if need be. I think most of us have filters/Steripens, so don't think that would be a problem.

Think this is a good start to get to whipping some of us into a shape less like a pear (I'm referring to myself and no one else here! ).

So...when we wanna start looking at this, folks? I'm not going to be available until the start of April, after Weasel goes into Basic.

Tentatively I'm in for those dates. Gotta get Momma's approval, but should be doable I think.
