Summer Insulation

So there's obviously a lot of info here about really warm insulation systems, which is great for winter.

But I don't see a lot of discussion about summer insulation system.

You don't pack your UQ and TQ with you on summer hikes do you?
Do you choose a UQ/TQ based on moderately cold weather and then supplement that with other things when it gets really cold?
Or do you get two completely separate systems for warm and cold weather?
What kind of system do you use for weather that doesn't really get below 50s / high 40s?

I use a 0* Pheonix 3/4 length year round and just change my top insulation.

good call on the cold to warm supplement. I was thinking of getting a summer under quilt to use alone or add to my 30f quilt if it gets colder than 20f or so. anyone do this or does it not work??

I bought my three-season UQ based on the fact that I'm a warm sleeper and rarely hang out when the low temps are below the 20's. I picked a 40* rated full-length quilt and had an extra ounce of down added. I use it year-around and have taken it down to 20*. I leave my top quilt at home when it's warm (50's and up) and use a fleece sleeping bag liner and/or a cheap fleece blanket for top insulation.

I think a down UQ is so light and packable, it's not a big deal to use a three-season version all year and just adjust it for warmer weather use. At some point down the road, I will buy a dedicated warm-weather TQ to take advantage of the savings in weight and packing bulk.

Do you typically use anything else with your quilts? Like a pad or anything?
Do you find you rely a lot on your clothing system too when it comes to your hammock insulation?

tewa freeze and wilderness logics 3 season TQ for winter months. tewa breeze rated to 40f with 50f burrow with and extra ounce of down for summer time use. perfect setup for the weather here in PA. the 3 season setup sees more use though...

I like the DWR down for summer.

Warm trips, I take a JRB torso pad. Wide and about as long as a short UQ, thin and kinda tacky, which makes it stay good in the hammock. Its lighter than a UQ.

Have a 40 UQ, too, which I take for higher elevation in summer, or anytime expecting nights in the 50s.
