    New hanger from East Tennessee!!

I have done a lot of research and DIYing. All my gear is currently homemade. I have very little experience. But a lot of backyard hanging/testing. Would love to hear advice and maybe a smoky mountian national park group hang. Its right in my backyard.

Welcome to HF from down the road in Athens, TN. Keep an eye out, there are sure to be some hangs in the area. DIY gear can be some of the best, and you are not too far away from one of the DIY masters, Sgt Rock.

Thanks Les. I actually test out my diy topquilt last night. Got it down to twenty five degrees. My feet were somewhat cold but bot to where I couldn't sleep still not warm. Does anyone have any ideas on how to combat this. I've tried reflectix slippers, hot hands and a sleeping bag over my top quilt. That was the best result i dint want to carry that extra weight this weekend

    Welcome MrPopper

I am not much farther down the road from you guys so if there is a hang in our neck of the woods we will get the chance to meet. As for cold feet, I have the same problem and I even wear two pairs of Darn Tough socks and one pair of Smart Wool socks. If you find a solution without adding a ton of weight let me know.

I know some have mentioned down booties but they are a bit pricey for my taste.

Putting your parka or vest around the footbox od your hammock/TQ will help a lot.
I use a thermarest sit-pad inside of my TQ/sleeping bag as a footpad as well.

Heard that on the booties. I want to try and make a pair but down is expensive. And I haven't made any insultex stuff. I've only converted existing things into the gear I need. The reflectix slippers kinda worked but not well enough. I might be able to modify them more. I have a few yards of fleece now. So maybe make socks.

    Shug,
Im currently using a blue pad from walmart under my feet. Its cut to about 1'x1'. I can tell a differnce in temperature. Should i put a small one inside my topquilt?

Welcome! I have the Sierra down booties and got them new for $35. Good price and they are keeping my feet warm all winter this year.
