Just finished another hammock. I really like it and have to share

I completed my first hyperD xl just last week. I haven't done an overnighter in it yet, but so far its nice and comfy. I'm helping make a bunch with my scout troop (10), but none of the boys (or mine actually) look anywhere near as good. We've been using rolling hem presser feet for the hemming, but yours looks amazing consistent. Nice work .

I've never tried a gathered end yet, as I've usually just whipped mine. I've found that the way you gather it up at the end dramatically changes how it lays, so I guess I've been hesitant to give up that adjustability.

I like that even though its wider than my 1.9oz hammock, it still weighs the same, and packs down just as well .

I'll have to try the soldering iron on my next one; I usually just roll the raw edge into the hem. Great job.

Very nice looking hammock. I love the color choice with the fabric and thread. You also take some very good photos. You should do some how-to videos or instructables. Nice work all around! Kudos.

First my disclaimer, I haven't DIY'd a hammock yet, but I am wanting to.

I have read where some people say it's better to just roll the factory edge into your hem because it will not fray. Then I've also read where others tout something like what you did with the soldering iron. Which looks like you did a really sharp job on. But others have said a melted edge will crack under stress because it can't stretch and the fabric will tear from that point. I've also read where some say don't do anything, a cut edge folded into a hem will fray some, but overall handles the stress much better.

So I was just wondering if you or anyone else could provide some more info on which might be better.

I'm a fan of hot cut edges (I use a woodburning tool as I found it easier to control than Husband's old soldering gun) and have never noticed any issues because of it.
