    Link works for me...

Well, search this thread for fiberglass. You'll get the same results.

The fiberglass poles have been used by a few members. As best as I remember, they worked OK for the tripods but not so much for the ridgepole. The last member that used them, perchancetodream , went overkill on reinforcements and put a tremendous amount of effort into it.

There is another version of the fiberglass poles that have reinforcing rings around the female end of the sections that might be a better choice than the ones you linked.

The Aluminum are tried and true.

I forgot to mention, I have had a ridgepole of the aluminum poles on my permanent deck hammock stand exposed to Indiana weather 24/7 for at least the last 1 1/2 years with no corrosion. I would have a greater concern for possible UV degradation to the resin used in the fiberglass poles if left out full time for years.

Solus- do you have dimensional drawings or CAD drawings of your tripod plate?

So I have a quick question for you engineer types. I made another of these, but ran into a problem. This one is to be used on an expensive, hard, and smooth floor. Chair leg tips seem to be the answer, HOWEVER, they do not com in a size large enough, or at least I cannot find them, to go on the female end. The largest ones I can locate will fit snugly on the male/insert end. Needing to use it that night, I put them on and lashed my stands together UPSIDE DOWN, with the male end on the ground. Slept in it two nights, and had nary a problem. This will be a recurring situation. Now, the question is, do you think the deformation around the male inserts is enough to support me, or should I drill each leg through the insert and place a bolt through? BTW, I'm a sveldt 230lbs. Thanks!

I figure it to be roughly 45lbs static pressure on each leg.
