I can see the thumbnail photos in some of the other posts and replies but I do not see the photos or thumbnails in the original post which I quoted or in the quote. I only see the place holders.

I loaded a web browser that I strongly dislike, but it does allow me to see the photos...

This is why "rabbit ear" stands made of a wood bottom beam with two steel poles sticking out at an angle usually fail by splitting of the beam at the pole insertion hole - the pole/beam joint does not work as a moment connection. Also why single arm stands usually are not made of aluminum. Wood stands use a diagonal brace from the suspension arm to the base with pin connections that do not transfer forces by moment. Instead, that type of stand is using truss design that resolves the horizontal force into compressive and tension along the truss members. The brace is in compression, while the section of base from the brace to the suspension arm is in tension. Tripod designs need a ridgepole because the tripods are not rigidly connected to each other. The tripods handle all the vertical load while the ridgepole handles all the horizontal load separately.
Ok, I am following the logic. thanks.

    Am I missing something?
I'm inclined to agree with you until someone proves us wrong. One of the legs of each tripod needs to be pointing inline with the hammock. A guy wire is then tied out in the opposite direction to provide stability.

Get rid of the ridge pole and add guy wires to studs in the wall :-).

Well, get rid of the stand altogether if you're going to hang from the walls...

Nobody said it can't be done, you just have to make it a totally different stand at that point.

But go for it! Everyone is interested!

He uses it outside when he travels. I stuck the comment in for yousa guys that are using them inside. I think Agfadoc might like my idea.......Now, prove my idea wrong

I really don't understand what you're trying to get at.

MGLion asked about removing the ridgepole and using the tripods only in a free standing state. With the light tripods we are using, that will not work.

You are proposing using a tie-out/down to take the side loads instead of the ridgepole. Of course this will work. It will also work with bipods, single poles (and even no poles if you're hanging from house walls).

Support for the tripods or no support for the tripods = apples to oranges.

Didn't mean to be dismissive of the idea. I promote the idea of any kind of different stand as we all do! It's just a really different stand you're considering, as far as I can tell.

That's how all of these stands start! Go with your idea. We're all interested! No one is trying to prove you wrong.

It will work in a free standing state also. One leg of each tripod needs to be inline with the hammock. Don't use your hammock as a swing

I have the aluminum poles. They make heavy tripods. They will work.

Get rid of the ridge pole....get rid of weight
