Re: Another version of the Aluminum Surplus Military Pole Stand

I got mine from deagle1969 on eBay.

    http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewi...d=120825971714

Good guy to work with and let me pick them up locally.

I am laying in the hammock now in the bad lands area using the stand. It sets up so quickly. I couldn't be happier.

I spoke to deagle1969 (aka Chad at http://www.ebay.com/itm/120825971714 ) yesterday and he said he only has about 400 left and doesn't know whether he will be able to get more or not.

Just thought a heads up to anyone on the fence might be helpful.

Don't know if anyone would be interested, but I bought 16 of this type aluminum pole with a bag, (never know when you may need extra was going to make a 16' top rail
Anyways, now that I have been diagnosed with ALS they are way too heavy to work with for me. They have not been used yet, or worked on.
I will arrange to have them shipped in the USA for $100.00.

    Alum3Tripods+2Ridgepoles

After some experiments, two camping trips with much rain, finally our setup.

I slept in A3T+2R two nights.
With S-hook chain holding tarp in over ridgepole mode and under mode.

When experimenting with the suspension : I pulled one of the tripods down by pulling on an unanchored line on the ridgepole, making it swing thru the tripod legs and out of the continuous loop at the other end.

After that Arthur was less thrilled. He hung in the trees.
( I missed the trees also. As cool as the setup is and we will need it going cross country, we are in the woods to be in the trees. )

Eventually he agreed to hang in our daytime ENO for an inning of the baseball game ( on the radio ).
It was a long inning, I could hear him snoring. So that was our test, about 35 mins.

I had imagined the setup being two sides of a triangle, but a straight line was easier to figure the structure and fit the site better.

That looks cool. I think I know what you mean about the unanchored line. When I would connect one end of my bundle of hammock, tq and uq combined, to the ridge pole, the weight would be enough to pull the ridge pole and opposite stand while I connected the other end of my whoopie sling to the ridgepole. I overcame the forces by grabbing the ridgepole while I walked to the other stand with the hammock weight on my shoulder and the whoopie on my thumb.

If I only did my hammock, the weight would be light enough and the un anchored stand would remain still.

It's definitely useful and the second hammock capability is really sweet, great job. I prefer trees but the stand will keep you off the ground.

    That is it exactly.

After the first night, with only one pair of tripods, we were turning the tripod positions before setting up the third tripod.
Had removed the hammock+UQ+TQ together ( heavy weight fleece winterTQ ).
Temporary, hung one end of suspension loose on ridgepole, when rigging the second side, a tug started the swing making
the suspension ride up the continuous loop.

I saw that the ridgepole was in motion and it started moving one tripod.

Arthur, at the moment, was many yards away.

A moment of decision ( my profession deals constantly with calculated risk ).
A taller person would have put their hand on it. The pole was a far reach over my head and I decided not to risk it.
Also, saw that steadying the one tripod might get me hit or rammed by the falling ridgepole.

Actually, it was a good lesson to learn the tipping point of such a strong useful structure.
